Why it exists

A tricycle economy that works for everyone

Keke NAPEP move hundreds of thousands of people around Kano every day, but for years there was no reliable record of who owned them, who drove them, or where they went. That made theft hard to trace, accountability hard to enforce, and legitimate operators hard to distinguish from everyone else.

Sufuri replaces paper ledgers with a verified digital register. Every tricycle is tied to a real, identity-checked owner and driver, carries documents that can be checked on the spot, and reports its position through a fitted tracker. The result is a safer service for passengers, a recoverable asset for owners, and reliable data for the Ministry.

What the platform does

From identity check to permit in one place

Identity verification

Every owner and driver is checked against the national identity database, so each tricycle is tied to a real, verified person.

Vehicle registration

Register a tricycle and receive a unique number generated from its local government area, along with its certificate, permit and stickers.

GPS tracking

Fitted trackers report position and status, so a stolen tricycle can be traced and the fleet can be monitored on one map.

Payments

Pay registration fees by bank transfer to your own virtual account, or through the gateways offered at checkout, and get an instant receipt.

Driver records

Each vehicle carries the verified driver assigned to it, with a printed identity card that can be checked at the roadside.

Oversight and reporting

The Ministry sees registrations, revenue and tracker coverage across all 44 local government areas as they happen.

Registering a tricycle

You can register yourself on this site or in the mobile app, or have an accredited agent do it with you.

Create an accountSign up with your phone number on this site or in the mobile app.
Verify your identityEnter your NIN. We match it against the national identity database and fill in your details automatically.
Pay the feeGenerate a payment reference, then transfer to the virtual account shown or pay through a supported gateway.
Add your tricycleEnter the plate, chassis and vehicle details. A tricycle number is issued for your local government area.
Assign a driverRegister the driver who will operate the vehicle, whether that is you or someone else.
Fit the tracker and printAn authorised installer fits the GPS device, and your certificate, permit, stickers and ID card become available to print.
Where we operate

All 44 local government areas

Sufuri covers the whole of Kano State. Each tricycle number carries the code of the local government area it was registered in, so a vehicle can be placed at a glance.

  • Registration is handled through accredited agents working across the state, organised into team leads, supervisors and coordinators.
  • Recognised transport unions are represented on the platform, and each vehicle records the union it belongs to.
  • Support is available by phone and email during office hours, and at the Ministry in person.

Operated under state authority

Sufuri runs on behalf of the Kano State Ministry of Transportation, which owns the register and sets the fees. Identity checks are made against the national identity database through accredited partners, and fees are collected through licensed payment providers — the platform never asks for your bank password or card PIN.

Personal data is handled under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. What we collect, why, and who else sees it is set out in full in our Privacy Policy, and the rules of using the service are in our Terms of Service.
